Call for Abstracts for Research Presentations


The Florida Physical Therapy Association (FPTA) is seeking Abstract submissions for presentation of original scholarship at the FPTA Annual Conference and Assembly of Representatives, September 17-20, 2026.

The goal of the FPTA poster presentation session is to increase awareness of the scholarly work being conducted by Florida physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, students, residents, and fellows in training. Scholarly work presented at other conferences (e.g., CSM, ACRM, ELC) within 12 months of the FPTA conference is welcomed.

Research Abstract Winners:

Eligibility:

  • At least one author must be a current FPTA member. Please provide member numbers for all APTA/FPTA members.
  • Students, doctoral candidates, and residents/fellows who submit an abstract should include a faculty member or clinical mentor as senior author.
  • The submitting author will need to attest that the abstract has been approved by all authors.
  • Abstracts must report results/findings. Submissions with only preliminary data are permitted, but abstracts reporting only information regarding a proposed project will not be accepted.
  • Scholarly work presented at other conferences (e.g., CSM, ACRM, ELC) within 12 months of the FPTA conference is welcomed.

Categories:

Faculty Scholarship: Scholarship conducted by a Florida DPT, PTA, or residency/fellowship program faculty member. Supervision of student and resident/fellow led projects should be submitted as student scholarship or resident/fellow scholarship. 

Clinician Scholarship: Clinician led scholarship conducted with or without collaboration from an academic partner.

Doctoral Candidate Scholarship: Doctoral student/candidate led scholarship conducted in association with a doctoral program (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc).

Resident/Fellow Scholarship: Resident/fellow led scholarship conducted in association with a residency/fellowship program.

Student Scholarship: Student led scholarship conduced in association with a DPT or PTA program.

Prizes and Awards:

Awards will be given to the best poster in each category.

Presentation Formats:

All abstracts will be presented as a poster presentation during the exhibitor reception at the FPTA Annual Conference. Authors of accepted abstracts are also expected to submit a digital copy to the poster to the FPTA, which will be posted in the FPTA Research Poster Repository. Authors are also encouraged to submit a recording (5 min or less) of the poster presentation in a digital format (e.g., .mp4, recorded PowerPoint).

Submission Instructions:

  • Abstracts must be submitted electronically at the following link:  https://form.jotform.com/260759346446164
  • You will be asked to provide the following information for each author:
    • Full name
    • Credentials (e.g. PT, DPT, PhD)
    • Email address
    • FPTA membership status and member number (if applicable)
    • Whether they are the corresponding author, presenting author, and/or other co-author. Please indicate only ONE corresponding author.
  • Any conflicts of interest
  • Submission category (Faculty, clinician, etc.)
  • Abstract title (15 words or less)
  • Structured abstract text, limited to 400 words including headers. Suggested sections are Background & Purpose, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion.

Logistics:

  • All abstracts will be reviewed for acceptance by the FPTA Research Committee and the Corresponding Author should be notified by July 22nd, 2026.
  • If accepted, you will be notified of the time and date of the poster presentation.
  • The corresponding author must confirm receipt of acceptance.
  • The presenting author is required to be registered for the conference and present for a designated time period.
