The purpose of this award is to acknowledge and honor an individual whose individual and/or collaborative scholarly activity has made a meaningful difference to clinical practice by physical therapists in Florida.

  • Any physical therapist or physical therapist assistant FPTA member
  • Current FPTA Board of Directors members are not eligible to be nominated for this award.

  • Demonstrate a sustained history (at least 10 years) of outstanding and ongoing basic, clinical or educational scholarship** relevant to clinical practice by physical therapists.
    • This may be demonstrated through consistent publication of scholarship in appropriate scientific and/or professional publications; presentations of the results of this scholarship; and/or a history of intra- and extramural funding.
  • Demonstrate professional commitment to physical therapy

**Scholarship described by Boyer (1990) may include any of the following:

  • The scholarship of discovery that includes original research that advances knowledge;
  • The scholarship of integration that involves synthesis of information across disciplines, across topics within a discipline, or across time;
  • The scholarship of engagement that goes beyond the service duties of a faculty member to those within or outside the University and involves the rigor and application of disciplinary expertise with results that can be shared with and/or evaluated by peers; and
  • The scholarship of teaching and learning that the systematic study of teaching and learning processes. It differs from scholarly teaching in that it requires a format that will allow public sharing and the opportunity for application and evaluation by others.

An award will be presented to the recipient at the FPTA Annual Conference Honors and Awards ceremony.

The following documents will be required for submission:

  • A letter of nomination specifically focused on the strengths of the nominee in relation to the award criteria, not to exceed 3 pages.
  • Two letters of support from individuals who can specifically address one or more of the criteria for selection, not to exceed 2 pages each.
  • Curriculum vitae or resume of the nominee.
  • Electronic versions of 5 scholarly works that provide evidence of outstanding scholarship
  • Submission Deadline: June 30th
