Florida law requires continuing education as a part of license renewal for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in the State of Florida. These requirements for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are defined in the state practice act and in the rules of the Florida Board of Physical Therapy.
In accordance with Florida Statute 486.109, Florida Physical Therapy Association approves courses that are required under this statute to be completed by Florida licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.
Within that law (and rule), the APTA and the FPTA have been given general jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the approval of Continuing Education courses offered by entities other than CAPTE approved PT and PTA Educational programs.
The Board of Physical Therapy has defined by rule, specific areas as outlined by the law that the FPTA Continuing Education Accreditation Policies and Procedures Committee looks for when accrediting courses, they are: professional ethics, clinical education, clinical management, clinical science, Florida law relating to physical therapy, basic sciences, risk management, and HIV/AIDS. No more than 5 hours may be received in the area of risk management, no more than 3 hours in HIV/AIDS and only 12 total hours may be achieved in home study per biennium. The current biennium began December 1, 2011 and will end November 30, 2013. For more information on Continuing Education requirements refer to rule 64B17-9.

For individuals seeking approval of a course that was not approved for continuing education credit will need to complete and submit the Individual Application Form.
Effective September 4, 2012, the FPTA began processing all course applications via CE Broker. You will no longer need to have your courses approved through the FPTA website prior to entering them on your course listing in CE Broker. Instead you will submit all required course documentation and payments via the CE Broker course application process. The FPTA will then be able to review all documentation required for course approval and assign an accreditation number.
Course providers who are new to CE Broker will need to open a new website page and go to www.cebroker.com. Please refer to the following directions once on the CE Broker website:

- <choose> option Florida Department of Health and <continue>
- Scroll down on the next page for Florida Board of Physical Therapy Practice <choose> register/apply now.
- You are now ready to create a Login and Password.
- Click here to view registration form.
To submit a new course for approval click on the link below.
- Choose Information Updates/Additions at the top of the page
- select Courses from the drop down menu and then click the button to Add a Course.
- The CE Broker system is programmed with the specific requirements of the FPTA. You will be required to attach all documents electronically.
