PTA Accreditation at Risk
In the closing days of the 2013 legislative session, the Florida Legislature passed HB 1071. As originally filed, the bill addressed a number of glitches in existing law that affect the accrediting of healthcare providers and hospitals but never related to the accrediting standards for physical therapist assistant (PTA) education. However, an amendment was added during the final days of the legislative session that made a major change to the PTA educational accrediting standards and has the potential to impact the graduating PTA’s ability to acquire a state license from the Florida Board of Physical Therapy Practice (FBPT).
Needless to say, the FPTA is concerned about the potential impact of this legislation on PTA careers in Florida and is asking its members and other physical therapy professionals in Florida to take action. Click here for more information.
